History of The Plammer

Fed up with needing two or three tools just to fix a barbed wire fence, my dad, and California rancher, Russ Fike—along with his friends Don English and Dick Keys—decided it was time to simplify fence repair. So in 1993, they invented The Plammer.

Originally, the company was named Plammers Plus. But when I bought the company in 2018 it became PlammCo because my dad would only sell me the company without the name in case I ran Plammers into the ground and he had to take it back over. After all, he had to protect his rep!!! (For anyone who knew Russ, you know this is standard operating procedure for him.)

Anyhow, there has only ever been one Plammer company. So if you are receiving plammers not packed with duct tape and Fresno Bee newspapers donated by my sweet 88-year-old friend Ellie, then they are probably knock-offs. I still operate just as Dad did.

“As a cowboy poet, my mantra is "Never pass up a chance to say something!" So, here's my review of this excellent tool: 20 years ago I called Russ Fike and ordered 2 pair of Plammers; one saddle size and one grown-up size, which was a gift for a feller who'd helped me fence a piece of ground on the mountain here in Western CO. Just like the old flyer suggests, "buy a pair for somebody you don't like..." it turned out that way for me. This feller and I's pardship turned sour. I tried for custody of the Plammers but sadly, breakups aren't always amicable. I kept my Saddle Plammers in my saddle bag with a nifty leather loop that kept 'em handy and easy to grab in case Me and Otis got into some wire in the weeds. It paid off more than once. I've used those pliers a heap and have never been disappointed! Well, last spring Otis was tied to a branch while a nap may or may not have ensued, and he pulled back and broke the branch and went on a frisky walkabout, and with every jump, emptying the saddle bag I'd neglected to fasten shut after pulling out my sandwich and relaxing in the shade. Found everything but my Plammers. Well sometimes the only way to find something lost is to replace it. The lost item will purtnear always turn up. Today I've spent enjoyable time on the phone with Sara, Russ' daughter, duplicating my original order. I'll keep both the Saddle Plammers and the grown-up pair thank you very much. And thank you to Sara and Plammco for keeping the best pair of fence pliers ever, available! I recommend 'em! The end."
